"I walked into Rutgers University with the mindset that I would never join a fraternity. My entire life, I had heard the stereotypes, almost all negative, about drinking, partying, hazing, or whatever else is may be. It wasn't until the involvement fair that I heard the name of Delta Sigma Iota. After attending rush, I was almost certain that I wouldn't pick Delta Sigma Iota but that all changed during the info session. It was here that I learned what this brotherhood is really about. There is a a lot more to it than I had originally thought. I heard about all the community service that Delta Sigma Iota takes part in. It showed me how important the brothers taught it was to give back to community that has shaped and raised us all into who we are today. Embrace Kids Foundation was the factor that made me change from a maybe to a definitely. Having experiences the hardships and strains of a family member with cancer, I want to do everything in my power to make sure that those that are in a similar situation know that there are people out there who care and want to make a difference in lives by helping in whatever way possible. From that point, I became a 100% sure that I wanted to be a brother of Delta Sigma Iota."What Have you Gained from Delta Sigma Iota? 'Delta Sigma Iota has given me so much in the short time that I have been a brother. Throughout the pledging process itself, I met 6 individuals who taught me the meaning of brotherhood. In a short amount of time, we all went from acquaintances to friends to best friends. We know that these bonds that we have made will last a lifetime. This fraternity prides itself on professionalism and I have learned what that actually means. I have learned skills and techniques that will make me a standout rather than just another applicant. My public speaking skills have greatly improved after becoming a part of this fraternity. I have gained a lot of self-confidence in my abilities. Before I was very quick on second guessing myself but I have learned it is important to be confident otherwise how will I be taken seriously. This fraternity has so much to offer the brothers and I am taking full advantage of it." |
